dorian-zh88 downloadsStyle ordered and nested lists with inline directives such as {A}, {i}, or {lower-greek}, in Reading view and Live Preview.
Give ordered lists their own numbering style in Obsidian. Add a style directive to the first item of each list, including nested lists. More Lists renders the result in Reading view and Live Preview while keeping your note as plain Markdown.
1. {A} First topic
1. {i} First point
1. {01} A detail
2. Another detail
2. Second point
2. Second topic
This displays as A/B for the top level, i/ii for the child list, and 01/02 for the grandchild list.
| Directive | Numbering |
|---|---|
{A} / {a} |
Uppercase / lowercase letters |
{I} / {i} |
Uppercase / lowercase Roman numerals |
{01} |
Decimal with a leading zero |
{1} |

Any named CSS list-style-type also works, such as {lower-greek} or {japanese-informal}. The directive must be at the start of the first item's text. Each nested list can set its own style; lists without a directive keep their usual appearance.
Only the first item controls the list's style. Directives on later items remain visible text. In Live Preview, move the cursor onto a list line to edit its original Markdown. To show a directive literally, put it in an inline code span: 1. `{A}` stays literal.
Once More Lists is available in Obsidian's Community Plugins directory, open Settings → Community plugins, search for More Lists, then install and enable it.
For manual installation, download main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css from the latest GitHub release. Put all three in <vault>/.obsidian/plugins/more-lists/, reload Obsidian, and enable the plugin in Community plugins.
If you installed an earlier ordered-list-style build, disable it and remove its plugin folder before enabling More Lists.
Verified in Obsidian Desktop 1.13.7 on Windows. Mobile and third-party themes have not been tested. The plugin has no bundled runtime dependencies, network requests, or vault scans.
Requires Node.js 22.15+ and npm.
npm ci
npm run check
npm run test:browser
npm run package
npm run package creates the release files in dist/more-lists/ and a ZIP for manual installation. Generated files and dependencies are ignored by Git.
The inline directive idea comes from erykwalder/obsidian-list-style, whose last release was in 2022. More Lists is a new implementation for current Obsidian and does not copy that plugin's source.
