What it does for you

✍️ Jot it down in seconds

  • A "Write something" composer box sits permanently in the sidebar: type a few words, send, and the note opens in the Obsidian editor so you can keep writing.
  • It's still Obsidian's own editor — the bold, lists and images you already know, completely unchanged.

🗂 Keep everything tidy

  • Tags: just write #tag in the body; #parent/child levels are supported, and picking a parent tag automatically brings in every child tag.
  • Batch cleanup: select several notes to add or remove tags, add or remove locations — all in one go.
  • Tag management: right-click a tag in the sidebar to rename it, merge it, or pin your most-used tags.
  • Pinned notes: pin what matters to the very top of the list, so it's the first thing you see when flipping through old notes.

🔍 Find it again

  • Search: the search box up top highlights matching words right inside the cards.
  • Filters: tags, locations and dates can be combined; each condition sits in the filter bar as a small pill you can remove with ✕.
  • Sidebar glance: note count, tag count and days recorded — there the moment you open.

📍 Give your memories a place (locations)

  • Tag notes with places (like "Beijing"), and "All locations" in the sidebar folds them into a tree: continent → country → place. Click a level to browse it.
  • Switch to the "Group by location" view, or open the Globe view: every place you've recorded lands on a slowly turning Earth — tap a dot of light and read what you wrote there.
  • A built-in gazetteer of world cities means common place names are recognised as you type.

💫 Look back and rediscover (review)

  • Five ways to revisit old notes: Random (anything at all), Week unseen (untouched for a week), Month unseen (untouched for a month), Stale (untouched for a long while), and On this day (the same day in years past).
  • Filter by tag first, then enter review — that's "only revisit old notes under this tag".
  • Finished a batch? Hit "Draw another batch" and old notes stay fresh.

📊 See your own habits (stats)

  • Activity heatmap: the sidebar shows your recent months at a glance — the darker the day, the more you wrote; click a day to see exactly what you wrote. The stats page has a full-year edition you can page through.
  • Stats page: from "how much you wrote" to "when you're most productive", "how your tags are doing" and "how long your notes run" — your recording habits at a glance.
  • Almost every number on the stats page is clickable — click one and it carries the matching filter back to the note list.

🗑 Delete without fear

  • Deleted notes move to "Trash" first, ready to restore whenever; purge them only once you're sure.
  • Uninstalling the plugin won't touch a single one of your files — every note is an ordinary note, always sitting in your own library.

Who it's for

  • People jotting down fragments: ideas, to-dos, passing thoughts — no need to create a new file, just type a few words and send.
  • People keeping diaries or journals: relive your days as a stream of dates; the heatmap is the trace of your persistence.
  • Travelers and life recorders: tag notes with places, then revisit old days by city or country — with a globe to look back on.
  • Readers, filmgoers and parents: sort things with tags, and use "review" to make sure what you wrote actually gets read again.
  • People who care about data ownership: no account, no telemetry — your notes are only ever your own files. The only network access is an optional, user-triggered download of the 3D globe assets.

Get started

Your daily three steps

  1. Write: type something in the sidebar composer, press Enter;
  2. Tidy: add a tag and mark a location on the card (both work in batch);
  3. Revisit: tap "Random review" on a slow day to meet old notes again, or head to "Stats" to look back on your year.

A few handy tricks

  • Backfill: forgot last night? Search "Backfill to a past day…" in the command palette and pick a day; there's a mirror command, "Write to a future day…".
  • Save to Momo: select any passage in any Obsidian note, right-click "Save to Momo", and that passage becomes a standalone entry.
  • Home in one click: click the brand icon or name in the top-left to jump straight back to the top of "All notes".
  • Tidy tags: right-click a sidebar tag to rename it, merge duplicates, or pin the ones you use most.
  • Choose your views: under Settings → Panel & sidebar → "Views", decide which view tiers appear in the top bar and in what order.

FAQ

Where is my data? All of it is in your own library, as ordinary note files you can open, edit and sync with Obsidian itself. The plugin keeps just one small ledger (what's in the trash, and your interface preferences) — nothing more.

Will uninstalling lose anything? No. Not a single one of your note files will be touched.

Do I need a network connection or an account? Not at all. No servers, no user system — everything runs locally.

Permissions & privacy

Momo is local-first: no account, no telemetry, no upload. Three things the community-plugin review flags, and exactly what each one is for:

  • Vault enumeration (vault.getFiles / getMarkdownFiles): indexing your notes as cards is the feature — tags, locations, the heatmap and review all read that index. The paths stay in memory on your own machine.
  • Clipboard: write-only, and only when you click a card's copy button (or paste an image into a note — that is Obsidian's own paste event). Momo never reads the clipboard in the background and never touches it outside those gestures.
  • Network: the 3D globe's textures are not inside the install package (Obsidian's installer only downloads main.js, manifest.json and styles.css). The Download asset pack button in the plugin's settings fetches them from this repository's release — that is the plugin's only network access, and it happens only when you click it. Without it the globe still renders (canvas fallback).
