cendre for Obsidian. Dark theme with every hue computed from a wood fire's emission spectrum.

A dark theme whose every hue was computed from a wood fire rather than chosen: Planck's law at 1300 K for the coals, published emission wavelengths for the rest, pushed through the CIE 1931 colour matching functions into OKLCH.

Dark only, on purpose.

cendre in Obsidian

The derivation is laid out step by step at cendretheme.com.

Install

Once it is in the community list: Settings, Appearance, Themes, and browse for cendre.

Manually, copy this repository into <vault>/.obsidian/themes/cendre, then pick cendre under Appearance.

Two other depths

The colorscheme ships three grounds under the same pigments. Obsidian lists one theme per repository, so this one carries hard, the deepest. medium and soft sit beside it in the colorscheme repository, under extras/obsidian/.

Generated, not written

theme.css and manifest.json are rendered from a single palette table in Aejkatappaja/cendre and pushed here on every release. A colour cannot be right in the editor and stale in a vault.

Report anything wrong on the colorscheme repository, not here: a fix belongs in the generator.

About
Apply a dark Obsidian theme with hues computed from wood-fire emissions (Planck's law at 1300 K mapped through CIE 1931 into OKLCH) for a coherent, natural palette. Provide three depth variants—hard (deepest), medium, and soft—rendered from a single palette generator.
