Niplex Writing Insights is an independently distributed, mobile-compatible Niplex Research AI extension for Obsidian. It provides a private local writing heatmap, streak summary, cadence signals, and optional user-controlled reflection. When connected to a compatible Niplex ecosystem host, it can contribute only a coarse aggregate writing signal to the agent’s bounded context.

The repository, manifest, release history, and Community entry remain separate from Niplex Research AI. Without the compatible host, Writing Insights remains a local heatmap plugin and never pretends that native agent integration exists.

What it adds to Niplex Research AI

When connected, Writing Insights registers the niplex-ecosystem protocol with the capability coarse-activity-context and a read-only action for opening its local view. The host may request a short contribution for a user-visible agent turn only after the user grants permission. The contribution is limited to active goal days, current streak, approximate weekly minutes, approximate weekly characters, and a coarse peak-hour bucket.

The bridge never shares note names, note paths, note content, text diffs, exact heatmap cells, provider keys, or background presence information. It cannot wake a suspended or closed mobile app and it cannot start an agent turn just because the user is inactive.

Privacy model

Tracking is disabled by default. Aggregate-only mode is always enabled: the plugin stores counts and time buckets, not note names, note paths, note contents, or text diffs. The character metric is an estimate from the in-memory before/after editor length and does not preserve the compared text.

Trigger behavior

The trigger is optional and has three modes: Off, an in-app notice, or an aggregate-only AI reflection using Gemini or Agnes. A reflection contains weekly counts and approximate timing only; it never sends note contents. Quiet hours and a minimum trigger interval are enforced.

The trigger is evaluated when the plugin is running, using Obsidian application events and a fifteen-minute interval. Mobile operating systems may suspend or terminate Obsidian, so this plugin does not claim to wake a closed app or provide guaranteed off-app push notifications. When Obsidian opens again, the plugin can evaluate the missed inactivity period.

Ecosystem permissions

A connected status only means that the compatible host was discovered; it does not grant data access. Open the host’s Niplex ecosystem settings panel and enable the coarse-activity permission only if you want Research AI to receive that aggregate signal. The default is deny-all. Disabling Writing Insights prevents it from contributing context.

If the host is missing, disabled, incompatible, or times out, Writing Insights continues locally and the agent continues without its signal. No background inference is started because the user is inactive.

Safety defaults

The plugin does not start a conversation automatically, modify notes, create tasks, or send data to a provider while the trigger is disabled. AI reflections are deliberately short, optional, and non-judgmental. Users can disable tracking, turn off triggers, change quiet hours, or delete the complete local activity history.

Installation and development

Install Niplex Research AI and Niplex Writing Insights independently from Obsidian Community when the compatible releases are available. Enable Writing Insights only if you want its local heatmap and optional aggregate contribution.
