Emotional Time Capsule

Write what you feel now. Revisit it after time has changed its meaning.

The Problem

Emotional notes are easy to write and hard to hold onto well. People either reread them compulsively, forget them completely, or never get to compare how their perspective changed once real time has passed. Emotional Time Capsule gives that kind of writing a place to sit, sealed, until it's actually time to look at it again.

This is not a therapy, mental-health diagnosis, or AI coaching tool. It's a private reflection and delayed-revisiting tool that works entirely inside your local Obsidian vault.

Features

• Capsule creation — unsent letters, messages to a future self, difficult-day reflections, decision records, relationship closure, gratitude notes, and personal milestones, each with its own writing prompts.
• Seal and open early — a sealed capsule shows a calm placeholder (title, dates, a short message) instead of its contents until its revisit date, with an explicit "Open early" option if you want in sooner.
• Revisit dates — 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, a custom date, or no date at all.
• Dashboard — every capsule organized into Ready to revisit, Sealed, Unsealed, No revisit date, and Archived.
• Postpone, archive, or delete — full control over what happens to a capsule once its time comes.
• Then and Now (planned) — a structured comparison between what you felt then and what you feel now.

How It Works

1. Run Emotional Time Capsule: Create new capsule from the command palette or the ribbon icon.
2. Choose a type, write a title, pick your current emotions, optionally use a writing prompt, and set a revisit date.
3. The capsule is saved as a normal Markdown note in your vault and, if you chose to, sealed immediately.
4. When its revisit date arrives, it shows up under Ready to revisit on the Dashboard.
5. Open it, reflect, and decide: keep it, reseal it, archive it, or delete it.

Setup

1. Install the plugin from the Obsidian Community directory (search "Emotional Time Capsule") or via Settings → Community plugins → Browse.
2. Enable it.
3. Open Settings → Emotional Time Capsule to set your capsule folder (default: Emotional Time Capsules).
4. Run Emotional Time Capsule: Create new capsule to write your first one.

Where the money goes

100% of Pro revenue from this plugin goes toward stray-animal care. I feed and look after a stray-cat colony (around 8-10 cats) near my building in Istanbul, alongside my own cat and two rabbits, and cover their food and vet costs myself. This plugin started as something I wanted to build for its own sake, not as a business — if it makes a little money, that money goes straight to the cats, not to me.

Privacy

Emotional Time Capsule works entirely inside your local Obsidian vault. It makes no network requests, has no analytics, no telemetry, and requires no account. Your capsules are plain Markdown files with YAML frontmatter — nothing is sent anywhere, ever.

Sealing a capsule shows a calm placeholder instead of its contents, but it is not encryption. The note remains a normal Markdown file and can still be read outside the plugin (in another app, or by opening the raw file). Treat sealing as a gentle "not now," not a lock.
