Instagram Saves Manager

A simple way to save, organize, search, and manage Instagram links directly inside your Obsidian vault.

Instagram Saves Manager turns Instagram Reels and Posts into clean, interactive cards while keeping everything stored locally in your vault. No external server or account is required.

✨ Features

🔗 Automatic Link Processing

Paste a complete Instagram Post or Reel link inside your Instagram Saves workspace and the plugin turns it into a clean Instagram Save card.

It can process links in:

• Notes
• The Unsorted note
• Subfolders inside the workspace

The normal paste system works with complete Instagram URLs that contain a valid Post, Reel, or TV identifier. Extra text around a link does not make the link itself invalid; the bulk importer can extract links from surrounding text as well.

📥 Bulk Import from a File

Have hundreds or thousands of Instagram links in a text file? You do not need to paste them one by one.

Use:

Command Palette → Import Instagram Links from File

Choose a .txt, .md, .csv, or .json file and the importer will:

1. Read the file.
2. Find the Instagram links inside it.
3. Ignore the other text around those links.
4. Send the valid links to your Unsorted note.
5. Process many links in one operation.
6. Show the actual number of links processed when finished.

For example, if a file contains 17 entries but one is not a valid Instagram link, the importer can report:

16 links processed

The interface also shows progress while a large import is running. A small import can finish almost immediately, while a much larger import can take longer without pretending that the work is already finished.

This is especially useful for large collections of saved Instagram links.

🆔 SaveID for Each Instagram Save

Every Instagram Post or Reel gets its own SaveID.

The same Instagram save keeps the same SaveID when it appears in multiple notes. This lets the plugin recognize that those copies refer to the same saved post or Reel.

This powers features such as link finding and metadata synchronization.

📚 Master Ledger

The plugin maintains a Sorted.md file as the central record of your Instagram saves.

It keeps the save information together so the plugin can find and manage the same Instagram save across your vault.

🏷️ Tags and Descriptions

Each save can have:

• Tags
• A description

Use the Tags 🏷️ button on a save to edit its information.

Descriptions can also be used when searching, making them useful for adding words or notes that help you find a save later.

🔄 Metadata Sync

When the metadata of a save is changed, the plugin updates the other copies of that same save across the workspace.

This includes the copy in the Master Ledger.

You can therefore keep one save's tags and description consistent even when that save appears in several notes.

🔍 Search

Use:

Command Palette → Search Instagram Saves

Search through your saved Instagram links using:

• Description text
• Instagram URLs
• Tags

Tag searches can use either:

• OR — match any selected tag
• AND — match every selected tag

Results show where the save is located and give you options to open the Instagram link or jump directly to the note.

Large result sets are displayed a page at a time with Load More.

🔗 Find Every Copy of a Save

Press Links 🔗 on an Instagram Save card to find every copy of that same save in your workspace.

The results show:

• The note containing the copy
• The Instagram link
• A button to jump directly to it

This works because all copies of the same Instagram save share its SaveID.

📑 Copy from the Master Ledger

When viewing a save in the Master Ledger, the card provides a Copy 📑 option.

Choose a destination note and the plugin can place a copy of that save there while keeping its existing SaveID.

➡️ Move a Save

When viewing a save outside the Master Ledger, use Move ➡️ to move it to another note inside the workspace.

The save keeps its existing information and SaveID.

🌐 Global Tag Manager

Use:

Command Palette → Manage Global Tags

The Global Tag Manager lets you:

• Create multiple tags at once
• See how many links use each tag
• Rename a tag everywhere it is used
• Remove a tag from all links

Tags are kept lowercase so they stay consistent.

📊 Database Statistics

Use:

Command Palette → Refresh Database & Show Statistics

The plugin scans the workspace and displays information such as:

• Total Instagram saves
• Number of saves in each note
• Number of saves in each folder

The refresh also checks the save information and updates the Master Ledger.

📁 Note and Folder Browser

When choosing where to move or copy a save, the plugin provides a simple browser for the workspace.

You can:

• Open folders
• Move through folders with breadcrumbs
• Select an existing note
• Create a new note
• Create a new folder

The browser stays inside the configured Instagram Saves workspace.

📱 Mobile Friendly

Instagram Saves Manager is designed to work on both desktop and mobile Obsidian.

The Instagram card opens the clean Instagram URL instead of exposing the internal tracking information used by the plugin.

🚀 How to Use

Basic use

1. Open a Markdown note inside your Instagram Saves workspace.
2. Paste a complete Instagram Post or Reel URL.
3. The plugin processes it automatically.
4. The raw URL becomes an Instagram Save card.
5. Use Tags 🏷️ to add tags or a description.

Import a large collection

1. Put your Instagram links into a .txt, .md, .csv, or .json file.
2. Open the Obsidian Command Palette.
3. Select Import Instagram Links from File.
4. Choose your file.
5. The importer extracts the Instagram links from the file.
6. Start the import.
7. Watch the progress while the links are processed.
8. The finished result tells you how many links were processed.

You can use this for a few links or a very large collection.

🗂️ Workspace

By default, the plugin uses:

Instagram Saves/
├── Unsorted.md
├── Sorted.md
└── Your notes and folders

Unsorted.md

This is the main place for newly processed saves.

You can paste links there directly, or use the bulk importer to send a large collection there.

Sorted.md

This is the Master Ledger containing the central record of your Instagram saves.

Other notes and folders

You can organize your saves however you want inside the workspace. The plugin can scan notes in subfolders as well.

⚙️ Settings

The plugin lets you configure:

Workspace Folder

The folder where Instagram Saves Manager operates.

Default:

Instagram Saves

Unsorted Note Name

The note used for newly imported or unsorted saves.

Default:

Unsorted.md

Sorted Master Note Name

The note used as the Master Ledger.

Default:

Sorted.md

📌 Important

Instagram Saves Manager only automatically scans and manages Markdown files inside the configured workspace.

Links outside that workspace are left alone.

For normal automatic processing, use a complete Instagram Post, Reel, or TV URL containing its identifier. The bulk importer is more flexible because it can find valid Instagram links inside larger pieces of text.

🔒 Your Data

Your saves stay inside your Obsidian vault.

The plugin does not require a backend server to store your saved links, tags, descriptions, or SaveIDs.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

My Instagram link did not turn into a card

Check that:

• The note is inside the configured workspace.
• The link is a complete Instagram Post, Reel, or TV URL.
• The Instagram URL contains the post/reel identifier.

My bulk import processed fewer links than expected

That normally means some entries in the file were not valid supported Instagram links.

The importer reports the number it actually processed rather than counting invalid entries as successful imports.

I cannot find a save

Use:

Search Instagram Saves

You can search by its description, URL, or tags.

If you already have the save card, use Links 🔗 to find its other copies.
